Velikat (working title) is a steampunk sci-fi novel of approximately 110,000 words for which I’ll be seeking representation in Autumn 2023.

18-year-old inventor Clio must leave Victorian London to find her missing and distant mother, who has been hurled into another dimension. Can Clio find her mother and learn the secrets of this new world where reality itself works differently?

Clio learns that her mother is hiding from the villainous Controller, who wants to travel back to Earth where he will use a powerful substance called vril to make himself King of the World. Captured by the Controller, Clio and her friend Frankie must find the courage and ingenuity to stop him.

Velikat is as detailed in its worldbuilding, as character-driven and unforgiving as N K Jemisin’s “Fifth Season”, as historically informed as Natasha Pulley’s “Watchmaker of Filigree Street”, as detailed in depictions of technology and society as Andy Weir’s “Artemis”. Drawing inspiration from the life of Ada Lovelace, it could also appeal to anyone with an interest in women in science.
